A bike is not just a “joy ride” for these kids, but often their lifeline to getting to school on time, participating in sports and other extracurricular activities. In addition, having a bike helps kids increase their physical activity while teaching them responsibility.

For the Life of You Mentoring Foundation has partnered with Richardson Bike Mart - White Rock to give select 5th-grade students at Eduardo Mata Elementary School a new bike and helmet in its inaugural "Christmas Bike Giveway."

 

What is the mission of For the Life of You Mentoring Foundation?

For the Life of You Mentoring Foundation is a nonprofit organization connecting underserved youth to influential youth for a different reality... Life. The foundation provides in-school peer-to-peer mentoring programs to promote career and professional development opportunities to youth.

Giveaway Details

At least ten (10) Eduardo Mata 5th grade students will be presented with brand new bikes and helmets.

 

Step One:

• To be considered, 5th-grade students at Eduardo Mata Elementary School must nominate themselves by writing a short essay entitled, “What a new bike will mean to me.” Be creative. Make it fun!

 

Step Two:

• Students must submit essay, with completed Waiver & Release form(s), to their teacher on Monday, December 18, 2017 by 8:00am CT. CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD WAIVER & RELEASE

 

Step Three:

• For the Life of You Mentoring Foundation’s selection committee will select, based on the Dallas Independent School District’s Persuasive Rubric, announce, and post the campaign’s winners on/or before Wednesday, December 20, 2017 on FortheLifeofYou.org.

• The presentation of bikes will take place at Eduardo Mata on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at 1:30pm CT, in the school’s auditorium, with students, teachers, administrators, PTA leaders, campaign sponsors and partners, and representatives from the Dallas Independent School District Police Department.

By allowing my child(ren) to participate in the FOR THE LIFE OF YOU MENTORING FOUNDATION/MATTHEW NEWMAN Christmas Bike Giveaway, I agree that I understand that riding a bicycle can be dangerous. I understand that cyclists should follow all the Rules of the Road as a vehicle should do. I also understand that a properly fitted helmet should be worn at all times when riding a bicycle. I knowingly and freely assume all such risks, both known and unknown, and assume full responsibility for my child’s participation.

 

I, for myself and on the behalf of my heirs, assigns, personal representatives and next of kin, hereby release and hold harmless FOR THE LIFE OF YOU MENTORING FOUNDATION/MATTHEW NEWMAN, their officers, officials, agents and/or employees, volunteers, staff, other participants, sponsoring agencies, sponsors, advertisers, and if applicable, owners and lessors of premises used to conduct the event ("Releases"), with respect to any and all injury, disability, death or loss or damage to person or property. I have read this release of liability and assumption of risk agreement, fully understand its terms, understand that I have given up substantial rights by entering my child(ren), and enter my child(ren) freely and voluntarily of my own free will.
